Author Meeting Place Interviews Author M.T. Bargeman of Plain View, VA, USA
Bio: I am a freelance writer living in rural Central Virginia, with my husband, our two children, and a few pets.
Many people are surprised when they meet me and learn that I am a writer, because I am Partially Sighted- Legally Blind. I use adaptive technology to write and edit my work.
How many book/s have you written?: I have written one book, and I have two more in the works.
Please share with us your book titles: I have wriiten The Travelers, and I am working on the sequel to it, working title, The Return. I am also writing The Gravedigger, based on a short story series I wrote about a gravedigger in rural Eastern Tennessee.
What genre/s would you like to write in?: I would like to write in the genres of paranormal thriller, fantasy fiction, and occult fiction.
Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: I write because I like to tell a good, entertaining story. My husband and children encourage me to write, because they like my stories, and they believe in me as a writer.
How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: It took a few years to write The Travelers, because I was slowly losing my vision when I began the book in 2005. I expect that the next books will not take as long.
How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: It took me a year to publish my book.
Who did you publish with and why?: I published with CreateSpace, because the economy, combined with the rise of the e-Reader, made many publishing firms close up their doors, and those that were left were less willing to take a chance on a new author. Since the option was available to me to publish without needing to be backed by a large house, I took advantage of it, because it allowed me to put my work out for the world to read. Who knows? Perhaps I'll be approached by a large publishing house. You never know what can happen unless you try.
Please share with us how you prefer to market your book/s?: I use social media like FaceBook and Twitter a lot, as well as letting friends, family, and members of groups I belong to on the Internet know I have work available. It is good publicity, and for those on a tight budget, it works well. I also have a blog about my work, and I write articles and place ads wherever it is free for me to do so. I like to call it guerilla marketing.
Please share with us any event/s that you have planned in marketing your book/s:
Do you wish to share any additional information with our readers?: Many people are surprised that I am a blind author. I'm not sure why that is, but it is. I love telling a good story, I love knowing that people are entertained by my work. I'll never stop writing.
