Author Meeting Place Interviews author Marilyn Thompson of Mesquite, Texas USA

Bio: Marilyn was born the fourth of seven children in 1959 in Dallas Texas. She has been married three times and has five children and three step children. Marilyn was the first in her family to attend college and excelled in english and literature classes as well as psychology, history and sociology. She dropped out of college to raise her children. She is an avid reader and devours books as if they were required to sustain life. She is currently working on her next novel which is yet to be named. She homeschools her youngest daughter and loves the internet because she has a desire to learn new things that cannot be quenched.

How many book/s have you written?: Well I have written many books but have only published 3 so far.

Please share with us your book titles: Outlaw Children Sacrifice and Redemption
Outlaw Children A World Re-Created
Guns, Horses, and Death The Life of a Wanted Man

What genre/s would you like to write in?: I do not limit myself. So far I have done Sci-Fi, Western, Horror, and Poetry. But I am willing to try my hand at any.

Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: I write because I enjoy reading and sometimes there just isn’t anything good out there to read that I haven’t already read. I developed a love for the written word long before I could read or write. The biggest influence on me was my father. He had only a third grade education but had memorized poems by Poe and Longfellow and recited poetry to us. He also was a wonderful storyteller and would tell us stories every night that he had either created himself or heard as a child or true stories about his life from his childhood to the time he served in Germany during WWII.

How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: Outlaw Children Sacrifice and Redemption seemed to write its self so it only took about 4 months. Outlaw Children A World Re-created took about 7 months and Guns, Horses, and Death was a novella and only took about a month.

How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: It took a while to publish the books because I self edited them. I was amazed at how much time it takes to edit a book it is the hardest part of getting published.

Who did you publish with and why?: I self published with LULU because I do not feel that the publishing industry is "New Author friendly" I have read many good books by writers who spent alot of time and energy trying to get their works published only to end up having to self publish due to the constant rejection of their books.

Please share with us how you prefer to market your book/s?: I market my work any way I can think of. I leave flyers and bookmarks in public places like the Library, doctor’s offices, and recreation center. I also Market online through my own website, Facebook, Twitter, and of course AMP.

Please share with us any event/s that you have planned in marketing your book/s: Right now I have no new event planned to market my books.

Do you wish to share any additional information with our readers?: As I mentioned I homeschool my daughter she is 16 and reads so fast she can finish a 300 page book within about 2 hours. When she was 13 she had already written a short story of her own, which she only passed out to family. Now she writes on a daily basis. I think that parents should know one thing, public school can teach your children to read, but only parents can teach their children to love reading.

Guns, Horses and Death The Life of a Wanted Man - Marilyn Thompson

Guns, Horses, and Death The Life of a Wanted Man
Marilyn Thompson

For the remainder of my life I have continued to seek the thrill of dying. I have joined with bands of the most unscrupulous outlaws, and traveled about getting into gunfights, fistfights, and the most dangerous situations I could find. I have been shot more than twenty times, have killed more than thirty men, and a crazy girl of the line that stabbed me, but I have always survived. I have begun to think that maybe death is afraid of me. I am returning home to Tennessee, I am old and can no longer find the thrill in living life or in seeking death. I have come to think that death has been mocking me all this time, keeping from me the excitement I have always sought.

Outlaw Children A World Re-Created - Marilyn Thompson

Outlaw Children A World Re-Created
Marilyn Thompson

The second book in the series. It is five years later and once again the survival of the people of Ben's Valley is threatened. This time the threat comes from three fronts. An old enemy, a new global leader of the Perfects, and an evil that has been reborn.

Jacob holds the hunting knife ready to plunge it deep. He can hear murmurings from deep inside the cave. He peers around the edge of the opening and sees that the cave goes deep into the cliff. The cave is dark but he can see a tiny speck of light reflecting against the back wall.

He enters the cave, and pressing his back against the wall, he slowly, carefully, makes his way toward the light. The cave is damp and chilly; it has the odor of death.

About a hundred feet from the back wall, Jacob pauses; he can hear a voice softly whispering. He can’t make out the words but the tone is dripping sweetly. The sound makes his stomach turn and the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.

Jacob's heart is pounding loudly in his chest. He knows this, somewhere in his mind he knows what he will find, but he can’
t retrieve the memory, it dances out of reach each time his brain tries to grasp it. After several seconds, Jacob continues to move toward the back of the cave, his fear a cold hand around his heart.

The voice continues to coo from the hidden room at the back of the cave.

There is a loud half groan, half scream that echoes off the cave walls and causes Jacob to run. His hand, which holds the knife, trembles in a mixture of fear and anticipation of the act he will soon call upon it to do.

The back of the cave curves around into a small, enclosed nook about ten feet in diameter. Jacob races around the wall and into the nook where a horrible and terrifying sight assaults his eyes.

Logan Anderson stands before him completely naked, and one hand behind his back. A wide slash, which runs from just above the pubic bone to the center of the ribcage, has allowed everything that had been inside him to spill from his body where it hangs in a mass of large coiled ropes and thick gelatos organ tissue. Behind his ribcage, Jacob can see the beating of what should have been a heart. Instead, it is a diseased looking sack of green pus.

Behind Logan are hundreds of bodies, they have been stacked several feet high and several rows deep. The bodies are of men, women, and children. To Logan's left a large tapestry covers the wall. The tapestry depicts the abominable acts that Logan has committed.

Logan looks at Jacob with the eyes of a soulless abomination and says, "Hello Daddy, You want to play?"

Jacob stands frozen, eyes staring widely at the thing before him. When he speaks, it is just a weak whisper. "I killed you."

Logan pulls back the tapestry and says, "I have a present for you Daddy."

Jacob looks at the wall behind the tapestry and sees that it is the wall into which his son Jake had accidentally been entrapped during their attack on New Eden. Jacob sees the right side of Jakes face and the bomb where the left side should have been. The face, Jake's face speaks. Jacob screams in agony and Logan's laughter fills the cave.

Outlaw Children Sacrifice and Redemption - Marilyn Thompson

Outlaw Children Sacrifice and Redemption
Marilyn Thompson

Imagine if you can a perfect world where death and disease no longer exist, a world without crime, where children are always obedient, and no one ever disagrees, everything and everyone is flawless. If you could live in such a world, would you, or would you look beyond the desire of every human heart to live in peaceful perfection and see the disastrous results the quest for perfection can produce? Read the histories and then decide if perfection is what you seek. In their quest for perfection, they have lost their humanity, and become soulless, heartless effigies as much their own creations as the clones that do their laborious work. They cannot see the flaws in this concept of perfection; instead, they see themselves as gods determined to rid the world of the stain of imperfection, we who they call nature's mistakes.

Outlaw Children:  Sacrifice and Redemption
Marilyn Thompson

In “Outlaw Children:  Sacrifice and Redemption” Marilyn Thompson has spun a very incredible yet believable story about our world in the future. Her plot, characters, explanations and writing in the first person was spot on. I am generally not a big fan of this type of futuristic drama, but she had me hooked from the first chapter. I could not put it down! Her characters were vividly real and I found myself rooting for the Outlaw Children to survive and not be “erased” from this world.
