Author Meeting Place Interviews Author Brick Marlin of Ohio, USA
Bio: While keeping inside the flesh of my fantasy world I work a full time job and spend time with my lovely wife.
How many book/s have you written?: So far, I've completed nine books; presently, I'm working on my tenth.
Please share with us your book titles: "The Darkened Image", "Saturated and Crimson", "Raising Riley", "Dark Places of Rest", "Sectors", and "An Ensanguined Path".
What genre/s would you like to write in?: I started with speculative horror, but through the years found myself mixing genres, such as dark sci-fi or dark fantasy. It seemed to work better for me, blending monsters and robots or whatever else my mind can evolve as a villain or hero. I also try to push a Twilight Zone theme into my work.
Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: I think reading books in general did the trick. Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe, and Clive Barker all played a role in my upbringing as a writer. Some tales, such as from the author J. B. Stamper, made my flesh crawl when I first read them, back when I was very young. Lately I have found new loves of literature, embracing the author's fantasy worlds. Anymore, I try and gaze through the eyes of my characters, imagining the world that I give them to step foot inside. And this drives me more and more to write.
How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: The novellas take about two to three months - sometimes quicker, depending how well my imagination works at the time, not having writer's block - while the novels take longer.
How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: Sometimes, I have the luck of an editor snatching a manuscript up immediately; while, other times, it could take up to a year or more.
Who did you publish with and why?: I first published with Publish America because I had heard about them through word of mouth. Overall I'm satisfied with the two books that they published for me. The next one I published was through Trunk Novels. The fourth time was with Sonar 4 because I had previously had two short stories published by them. Since then, have been extremely grateful with the outcome of the promotion the editor has done for me. The last two books, due out next year, are more of a dark fantasy genre and each publisher was looking for submissions in that field.
Do you wish to share any additional information with our readers?: My latest book, "Dark Places of Rest", a small purchase of $3.50, is available at http://www.sonar4publications.com/rest.html
