LUST AT FIRST SIGHT is a spicy contemporary romance with a paranormal undertone that quite thoroughly explores the concept of instant attraction. The author does a wonderful job in spinning a sexy tale about Nonnie, a struggling writer and Dante, a beyond hunky vampire club owner who cause sparks to fly when they meet.
Nonnie Lonigan is a down-on-her-luck freelance writer who is coasting on fumes in her banking account. Times are hard right now, and she is having a difficult time coming up with a story that will put her back on top and settle some of her financial woes. After some serious brainstorming, Nonnie comes up with an idea for a story that she is sure will net her a high payout. She is going to pose as a vampire and infiltrate one of the hottest vamp clubs in town in order to debunk some of the stories that circulate about a vampire's sexual prowess and magnetism. It is at one of these nightclubs, that Nonnie meets Dante, a sexy, hot vampire who happens to own the club she is visiting. Sparks fly and so do some articles of clothing, and Nonnie and Dante embark on a very hot night of passion.
Unfortunately, for them, a group of vampire hunters has descended around the club and the couple find themselves in the middle of an attack. Dante doesn't want to believe that Nonnie had anything to do with the hunter attack, but it's a pretty big coincidence that on the very night that she visits his club, an attack occurs.
LUST AT FIRST SIGHT is a very fast-paced, short story that focuses on the concept that not everything is as it seems. Both the hero and heroine of the story make assumptions about the other, which are actually way off base. The author has done a good job in depicting two characters that seem to be drawn to each other on a primal level. Their minds try and rationalize what is going on between them, but their bodies and hearts have ideas of their own. The chemistry between Nonnie and Dante is combustible. Attraction is almost instantaneous and the two characters are almost powerless to resist its pull.
One thing that really impressed me about LUST AT FIRST SIGHT was the author's ability to lead the reader one direction with the storyline and then, just when everything seems to be all figured out, changes direction and produces an unexpected twist. It is always appreciated when a book keeps the reader guessing until the end, and this book does not disappoint on that score. Along with the element of surprise, the author successfully inserts plenty of action and suspense with regards to Nonnie and Dante's run-ins with the vampire hunters. At certain points, you can't turn the pages fast enough to see how things will play out.
The only thing that I wish had been explored a little more in depth was Nonnie and Dante's relationship going forward. Of course, because of the constraints that exist due to the size of the story, it is understandable that only so much of their relationship can be addressed. The author seems to allow the reader to draw his or her own conclusions with regards to certain aspects of the story.
Overall, I thought that LUST AT FIRST SIGHT was a great romantic short story and should be entertaining for all of those readers who fancy a good romance with a bit of paranormal and eroticism thrown in for good measure. Just make sure when reading, that you have something to extinguish the flames on the pages when Nonnie and Dante cause those sparks to fly.
