James joins the British Army where he fights fro the Queen in three theathers of war. Caitlin breaks off the relationship when she discovers he is still boxing despite promises to stop the brutal sport. James goes to America to distance himself from the painful reminders of Caitlin.
He finds work in Florida for several years until he is forced to go into hiding after accidently killing a man in a fight.
A long lost letter from Caitlin surfaces causing James' return to England for an attemped reunion.
