Backcover Description: Writing about Ned and Ernie is easy for the Narrator. They're two normal guys who live in a world much like his own. He can send them on great adventures, give them the best or subject them to the worst. He's in control, until the Narrator's characters start following a plotline he didn't create. Ned and Ernie are facing an ancient, ravenous evil: an entity called the Cast that is determined to destroy their universe . . . and ours!
Book Review/s to share: SFREVU Dreamers at Infinity's Core by Christopher Nadeau Cover Artist: Dark Elf Designs, LLC Review by Mary Rose-Shaffer Com Publishing Trade Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 9780979029967 Date: 05 August 2009 Nadeau's Dreamers at Infinity's Core is based on a fairly familiar conceit: the writer's story becomes real -- in this case in a fully realized second universe dubbed Earth Redux. The main actors of the novel are the unnamed narrator/creator and his creations, protagonist Ned, his best friend Eddie, the mystery woman Ned loves, two psychics, and several faceless (literally) gunmen. The first third of the story mostly happens in Ned's mind as developed by the narrator. After the stage is set with the mysterious destruction of Ned's workplace, the real action elements of the story pick up. There are several layers of mystery to solve: Who destroyed Ned's workplace? Where is the mystery woman Ned loves --she disappeared after the explosion? Will they find one another? Who are these faceless men? Whose side are these psychics on? Who is in charge of this world as the narrator's control on the actions of the main characters diminishes? Will they find each other in time to save the world? The adventure in seeking the answers to these questions is a wild, twisted ride. Although initially put-off by the free use of the F-bomb in the first dozen pages, I soon realized that this is a book about men for the most part, real men with male voices. And that includes cursing and, ahem, off-color and bathroom humor. Once one gets to know the characters, the dialogue rings increasingly true. Initially, the narrator's awareness of himself as creator was distracting but leveled out as the story progressed. There is the occasionally platitude: Even total freedom comes with invisible chains; (15), but overall Nadeau avoids the clichés possible in this kind of story within a story within a story. As the beginning of a series of adventures--the end page states; Coming Soon: The next installment in the Infinity's Core saga. Echoes of Infinity's Core. Dreamers at Infinity's Core is a solid start. While I would not call the novel high art, I enjoyed the ride provided by Christopher Nadeau enough that I will look forward to reading the next installment. Recommended for those who like to play with states of reality and those who like a good adventure. --sfrevu.com
Without the pomp and circumstance provided by big publishing companies, another one of my favorite Michigan authors made a quiet debut in 2009. Christopher Nadeau s Dreamers at Infinity s Core (COM-Publishing, ISBN 9780979029967) has some of the same elements as Lee's...science fiction, a bit of romance, suspense, some edge-of-your-seat thrills...but that's where the similarity ends. Dreamers is a writer's book. If you've ever found your characters taking on a life of their own, one that you as the author hadn't intended, you will relate to the Narrator. His characters, Ned and Ernie, are plunged into danger while he initially can do nothing but watch. It's also a man's book full of normal guys with fairly typical male attitudes toward life, work, and women. But their attitudes and their lives are forced to change when the Narrator s make-believe world of Earth-Redux is turned inside out by an ancient, ravenous evil...an evil that won't stop until it reaches the real world of the Narrator. I thoroughly enjoyed both Dreamers at Infinity's Core and The Breach. Here s looking forward to the new year...and new sequels...where Earth will once again be saved by both action heroes and normal guys! Cheers! --Jul 27, 2010.
