Author Meeting Place Interviews Author Jennifer DeNaughel of Shoshone, Idaho USA
Bio: I've been an Idaho girl all my life, I was born in Burley in 1970 and grew up in Paul. I now live in Shoshone with my husband of nearly twenty years. I have no children, but I have three cats, Kanji, Koda and Kanaka and the world's greatest dog, Copper. I love spending time with my niece and nephew, Kayla and Keenan, they are the light of my life and my heart. One day I hope to live on the Oregon Coast. Each time I visit, I leave a little more of my heart on the beautiful and breathtaking shoreline. Bandon-by-the-Sea, is my home away from home I feel so much at home there...so much at peace. My love of the ocean and lighthouses inspired 'Face the Rain'. It has always been my dream to be a writer and a photographer and with this novel I was both, as I took the photo for the cover.
How many book/s have you written?: I have written just this one book so far. I am working on a second. I have also written fan fiction stories for the tv show The Pretender which are posted online. 'Face the Rain' is my first novel.
Please share with us your book titles: Face the Rain
What genre/s would you like to write in?: I love to write books that can fit into multiple genres. I don't want to only write romance or only a mystery. I want to blend them together.
Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: I am encouraged to write by daily life experiences. So many things and so many people inspire that spark in me to write.
How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: It took me 25 years to write my book. I started it in high school.
How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: It did not actually take as long to publish it as it did to write it. I met my publisher in July of 2009 and by April 2010 I had my first printed copy in my hands.
Who did you publish with and why?: I published with Misty Peak Publishing owned by a local independent publisher by the name of Cliff Johnson. I chose him because everything felt right. I felt it was meant to be from the moment I met him. I sent him my book and he said he loved it. I found out later that he was planning to get out of the publishing business, but Sandy Heptinstall of Whispering Winds Book Reviews told him he was crazy if he didn't publish it. The rest is history. I knew that by publishing with Misty Peak that I could keep control of my 'baby' and that no one could take it and change it into something I no longer recognized.
Please share with us how you prefer to market your book/s?: I prefer to market my book in a way that is honest. I want to be able to know that they bought my book based on a genuine desire to read it and not because they felt pressured. If for that reason I don't sell as many copies then so be it. I really look forward to doing book signings and getting out and meeting people. That is my favorite part of this whole experience as a published author.
Please share with us any event/s that you have planned in marketing your book/s: At the moment I am scheduled for two book signings in Boise and Meridian, Idaho. I have another signing pending in Nampa, Idaho. I plan on returning to Arts in the Park in July here in Shoshone and the Mini Cassia Craft Fair in October.

Backcover Description: Jenna Kendrick made a fateful decision twelve years ago. A decision that landed her in a decade-long marriage to a cruel and sadistic man. Convicted and sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder and rape, Lyle Chandler was finally out of her and her children's lives. Needing to put it all behind them, they head for the one place Jenna knew they could find refuge and begin to heal -- the beautiful Oregon Coast and Bandon-by-the-Sea. Praying that the bridges burned when she left her hometown of Bandon so long ago, weren't beyond repair, Jenna hoped that the people she hurt would forgive her. Especially Ian McKenna, her first love and father of her teenage son. She soon learns that Ian has a long-kept secret of his own and that the connection between them is strong as ever. If they can forgive each other for the past, they just might have a future. When Lyle escapes from prison and comes after Jenna, seeking revenge, she finds herself surrounded and protected by the people she loves, proving that you really can go home again...
Book Review/s to share: This wonderful novel is a real page turner. It offers everything a reader could wish for: There is romance, suspense and crime, birth and death but most of all it emphasizes the powerful magic of unconditional love and forgiveness. It is the kind of book you want to curl up with on your couch in front of a fire. While getting lost in the story, it seems you can almost hear the sound of the ocean which is an important element in this story.. This book captures the reader's attention until the very end. I can highly recommend it.
