What genre/s would you like to write in?: I write in the genre of true-crime for the most part.
Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: I don't particularly need encouragement. Writing is as natural to me as digging coal would be for a miner. It's something I do practically every day and I'm good at it.
How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: On average, it takes me about a year to put together a book.
How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: I was under contract, so this is a bit irrelevant.
Who did you publish with and why?: I had always wanted to be an author. Around 2003, the email list-serve for the Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC) mentioned that Altitude Publishing (a now deceased company in Alberta that specialized in short, punchy Canadian non-fiction) wanted to expand westwards and was seeking new authors, patricularly in Toronto/Ontario. I hit them up with a pitch about Edwin Alonzo Boyd, a famous Toronto bank robber. They liked my pitch and a book contract ensued.
Please share with us how you prefer to market your book/s?: I do regular tweets on Twitter and updates on Facebook and LinkedIn. I do promotional events such as book signings when they are arranged by my publisher/s. I have read selections of my books at various readings.
Please share with us any event/s that you have planned in marketing your book/s: I will be signing copies of my book "Al Capone" at the Chapter's store at John and Richmond Streets in downtown Toronto, Saturday October 16, 2010 from 3 - 6 pm or so.
