Author Meeting Place Interviews Author Leeann Burke of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Bio: I can't remember a time when I didn’t have characters living in my head. It wasn’t until the age of 12 that I realized not everyone hears characters talking to them. That’s about the time I put pen to paper and created their stories. I finished my first and only short story within weeks. I kept on writing through high school, university and my first few jobs. To this day I still have a pen and paper handy.
I have completed 10 manuscripts. After 22 years of writing I got “the call”. The owner of LBF Books called to let me know she wanted to purchase DEADLY SECRETS. I can’t express what it feels like to finally see my publication dream come true.
I currently live in Ottawa Canada and I’m working on DEADLY DESIRES as sequel to DEADLY SECRETS and plotting more books.
How many book/s have you written?: I have written over 10 books but only 1 has been published yet.
Please share with us your book titles: Deadly Secrets
What genre/s would you like to write in?: Romantic Suspense
Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: Well I had cruel parents who punished me into writing. I was a tomboy and didn't sit still. So reading and writing weren't things I did. The local newspaper had a contest for children to write a piece and they would publish it. My sister ran home plotting her article or interviewing local junior hockey players. While I ran home thinking I didn't have to do it because it wasn't homework. Boy was I wrong. Myt parents decided that eventhough I didn't submit the article for the contest I had to write one. Well I did and I got hooked and the rest as they say is history.
How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: It took me a few months to write the first version of my book/.
How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: My first book took 3 rewrites adn 11 years to find a publication home.
Who did you publish with and why?: I am published with LBF Books. They are a wonderful small publisher. I have learned a lot about myself and grown as an author through my editing process.
Please share with us how you prefer to market your book/s?: My book is special because my publisher and I went out and got a sponsorship for the American Breast Cancer Foundation. I am donating 100% of my royalties to the cause of breast cancer and my publisher is also donatine funds.
I have placed ads in magazines such as the RT Bookclub, got reviews at online locations, guest blogged and did interviews.
Please share with us any event/s that you have planned in marketing your book/s: The American Breast Cancer Foundation and I placed a proposal to the Ellen Degeneres Show but they decided to pass on it.
I have done some signings and blogs mostly.
