What genre/s would you like to write in?: I've written in all the genres that I enjoy.
Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: I write because I have to write. Writing is a part of my being. My characters come alive in my head and I really must write down what is happening to them.
When I am writing about someone like Tempe Crabtree, she is as real as any member of my family or my friends. I know her even better than any of them because I know how she thinks and how she will react to every situation she faces. Though I've been married to my husband forever, most of the time I have no idea how he thinks.
Speaking of my husband, he is very supportive of my writing and helps me a lot when it comes to promoting. Both take so much of my time, if he wasn't supportive, I'd never be able to do it.
How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: It takes me about six months to write a book and that includes editing and some times a lot of rewriting.
How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: My first book took a long while--and so did the second and the third.
Who did you publish with and why?: Over the years I've been published by lots of different publishers including one New York publisher; a couple of crooks--yes, that's what they were, one even went to jail; two publishers who died and that was the end of their businesses; two publishers who decided not to be publishers anymore; and several good publishers.
Right now my Deputy Tempe Crabtree series is being published by Mundania Press. I am very pleased with them.
Oak Tree Press is now publishing the Rocky Bluff P.D. series. The publisher is also a friend, so I'm happy with this relationship too.
Please share with us how you prefer to market your book/s?: I do a lot of online promotion as well as physical promotions.
I usually do a blog tour for each new book, and I'm on Twitter and Facebook and other social networks.
I always do a book launch in my hometown, I love to do library talks and book festivals. Giving workshop at writers' conferences is another of my favorites.
Please share with us any event/s that you have planned in marketing your book/s: For Dispel the Mist, I began with a talk at our local library about the inspiration for the book. My launch was at a new business in my hometown where I did a book signing, visited with those who came and served lemonade and cookies.
Coming up are many things:
I'll be having a book signing Saturday, Sept. 26th at 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Barstow--this is in conjunction with my family reunion. (Always take advantage of every opportunity.)
Sunday, October 4th, I'll be in San Luis Obispo at the Central Coast Author and Book Festival and I'll be speaking in the library there at 10 a.m.
October 17 and 18, I'll be at the Apple Festival in Springville, CA.
November 7th at 10 a.m. I'll be giving a presentation about Novel Writing at the Erle Stanley Gardner Mystery Festival, in the Senior Center in Temecula.
On November 21st., I'll be at the Oakhurst Library from 10 to 2.
December 5th, I'm back in Oakhurst at the Willow Brook Bookstore at 2.
December 11th and 12th I'll have at table at the Porterville Art Museum all day.
For 2010 I'm attending three cons
Epicon, Mayhem in the Midlands, Public Safety Writers Association and Bouchercon

A Tulare County Supervisor with both Native American and Mexican roots, dies under suspicious circumstances. Because of Deputy Tempe Crabtree's own ties to the Bear Creek Indian Reservation, she's asked to help with the investigation.
Tempe has unsettling dreams, dreams that may predict the future and bring back memories of her grandmother's stories about the legend of the Hairy Man. Once again, Tempe life is threatened and this time, she fears no one will come to her rescue in time.
Book Review/s to share: I found Marilyn Meredith's "Dispel the Mist" to be a wonderfully engaging story filled with suspense and intrigue. The plot was rich with characters and a story line that pulled at the detective in me. Just when I thought I had the solution, a new suspect would spring forth and throw me off balance. I especially loved the inclusion of Native American folklore, which added even more mystery to the story. This story was like being on a roller coaster that only went uphill. It filled me with the same breath-holding anticipation of what was to come when I finally reached the top. This is a very good 5 star book and I will be recommending it to all of my friends and family.
***** 5 Stars Marilyn Thompson, Author /Reviewer Mind Fog Reviews
Tempe Crabtree and her husband Hutch along with fellow community members of Bear Creek attend a social event at the casino on the reservation, where it is revealed that new development plans to the reservation are being proposed. Not everyone in the community is eager for the impending idea for development.
A sudden death of a local prominent resident spells trouble when Deputy Tempe gets called in on the investigation. Not sure if a murder occurred, Tempe questions the locals and uncovers the legend of the Hairy Man. Tempe must listen to her spiritual side to help uncover the truth.
Marilyn Meredith has written a terrific mystery that is a definite page turner. Meredith delicately handles the misconceptions of people with a disability which is woven into the storyline. The characters are strong and easy to relate to, making the story more enticing. A must read for mystery lovers. ****StarsSingleTitles.com
