How many book/s have you written?: 2
Please share with us your book titles: "Keeper of Secrets
Translations of an Incident" "The House"
What genre/s would you like to write in?: Women's Fiction
Please share with us who or what encourages you to write and why?: I am passionate about marriage, family and self-understanding.
My husband is my muse.
I am also taken with spiritual concepts, faith and the how a spiritual practice affects one's own ability to "know thyself" and our interactions with others.
How long did it take for you to write your book/s?: It took fifteen years to write my first publication, collection of short stories, "Keeper of Secrets...Translations of an Incident". It was my MFA thesis. Of the eight stories, the first four came out of novels I have written, yet unpublished and all done before entering my MFA program. I wrote the first draft of "The House" in 2008. After allowing it to lay for 10 months, I began revising it in October 2008.
How long did it take for you to publish your book/s?: Keeper of Secrets...Translations of an Incident was published 11 months after I completed and presented it as my MFA thesis. The House is coming to publications almost 3 years after writing the first draft.
Who did you publish with and why?: Keeper of Secrets...Translations of an Incident was published by Three Muses Press, the literary imprint of Ink and Paper Group Publishers in Portland, Oregon.
This was a thrilling and affirming event for me having just earned my MFA. I received an e-mail from the editor and publisher requesting the full manuscript for "Keeper of Secrets...Translations of an Incident" hours after the graduation ceremony where I received my MFA.
"The House" is being published by NOJ Publications, which I own. Due to the poor economy and the heavy responsibilities of being a wife with 3 children, I decided, with the enormous encouragement of my husband, who read and liked the manuscript to "The House" to self publish it.
I was at first intimidated by the task. Now on the other side of having it done it, I feel really good about the entire process. I have learned, and am still learning, so much about the creative process, trusting yourself, trying new things, being the captain of your own ship, and enormous arena concerning the business of publishing which has its own challenges.
Please share with us how you prefer to market your book/s?: I do all of my promotion and marketing utilizing the Internet. Because I am a wife and mother of 3 and am unable to travel, the Internet, and social media is the way I have established my presence in the writing world.
I have a website and blog regularly, something I began doing in January 2009 when deciding to accept my husband's suggesting and offer to fund my self-publishing efforts.
I belong to goodreads, shelfari, and many, many Ning.com sites focused on writing and publishing.
I have two Facebook pages, a page at MySpace. I have 2 Twitter Accounts.
I have a feed burner, Friendfeed that distributes east blog I post. I also convert certain post posts into pdf's and disseminate them on SCRIB.
I also host a weekly blog talk radio show, Book Talk, Creativity & Family Matters where I host fellow authors and interview them about their books and writing.
The radio show is my primary calling card, my way of supporting and encouraging fellow authors in their writing and publishing efforts and networking.
Please share with us any event/s that you have planned in marketing your book/s: I am presently working with Tyora Moody/Tywebbin Creations LLC and A La Carte Promotions as we plan events that will take place throughout 2011 in promotion and publicizing "The House" which is scheduled for debut October 2011.
These activities will include blog tours, raffles, feed blitzes, interviews and podcasts, social media tours and other events all culminating with an author web party spanning 2-3 days.
