Thomas Palfy’s latest work introduces readers to the many popular tourist attractions of Australia. It follows the tradition set by the author’s earlier photo-travel books. All the states and territories are described in words and illustrated by many photographs. The pictures not only include captivating landscapes and interesting buildings but people, animals and plants as well, since these are also part of the whole experience.
Between 2006 and 2009 the author and his wife visited the length and breadth of Australia and recorded these journeys in words and pictures. The travel diaries were condensed into essays about the attractions of each state and territory and the best photos selected for inclusion in the book. Because of the vast expanse of the continent and the large number of well-known and lesser known fascinating sights, it was impossible to visit and describe them all. A handful of pictures depicting places of interest visited before 2006 are also included.
Australia Illustrated - the Eastern States is a great collection of photographs taken by the author while touring with his wife in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania. The pictures and the commentary serve as an essential guide to the traveller or would-be traveller to the Eastern part of the fifth continent, so rich in tourist attractions. This publication is a follow-up to the author's photo travel books on Western Australia (The West of the West) and South Australia, the Red Centre and the Top End (The Hub of Australia and Beyond).
CAPTURED WITH THE CAMERA is a selection from Thomas Palfy' finest photographs. Over the years the author's camera has "captured" numerous interesting people, exotic animals, colorful flowers as well as scenes from Australia and from other parts of the world. Among the more conventional photographs the reader will also find a few surprising "special effect" pictures. The images are presented as six albums or chapters, each dealing with a different topic. The captions include a number of useful tips for the amateur photographer as well as some wacky comments.
Meeting challenges and overcoming adversity are the subjects of Thomas Palfy's six letters to his daughter, Angelica. The author's life is recounted from the moment of his vividly described birth to his sixtieth birthday. In between those two dates he encountered many people and faced numerous funny, exciting and on occasions life threatening situations. Brief history lessons are included in the work for the benefit of the reader, so events can be put into context. Encounters with family, friends and others are recollected in loving, often humorous detail. One day the author felt the urge to start reminiscing about life's ups and downs, about his years of turmoil and merriment... He then sat down and composed six letters to his daughter ...
This book is based on Thomas Palfy's class notes for his digital photography course at U3A. If you want to learn about digital photography and improve the quality of your pictures, this is the book for you.
THE HUB OF AUSTRALIA AND BEYOND takes the reader on a tour of Australia's Northern Territory. In April 2007 Thomas Palfy and his wife, Susan visited Alice Springs and Darwin. They went to see many tourist attractions in and around the two cities as well as the ones that are located in between ... The illustrations and comments will help those who are familiar with this part of the world to re-live their experiences. Others, who have never been there, might decide one day to visit this unique region of the fifth continent.
In September of the same year the Palfys ventured out to South Australia. With the able assistance of the tour guides, they re-discovered the Flinders Ranges and travelled to other tourist attractions in and around Adelaide. This trip was also faithfully recorded in words and in pictures. Photographs of this journey and comments make up the second part of the book. It follows hot on the heels of Thomas Palfy's 'Challenge and Adversity' and 'Captured with the Camera'.
